American Heart Association has certified walnuts as a heart-healthy food through its Heart-Check mark program. *
Walnuts contain more plant-based omega-3s than any other nut — 2.5g per ounce. 1
* Supportive but not conclusive research shows that eating 1.5 ounces of walnuts per day, as part of a low saturated fat and low cholesterol diet and not resulting in increased caloric intake, may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. A one-ounce serving provides 18g of total fat, “good fats” including 2.5g of monounsaturated fat and 13g of polyunsaturated fat (of which 2.5 grams is plant-based omega-3 ALA), as well as 1.5g of saturated fat.
